Family relationships are finding themselves under a lot of pressure due to the recession. Article discusses how the current economic situation has caused stress levels to rise, leading to more problems with abusive caretakers. I thought that the article was pretty accurate because most parents that are abusive to their kids is mostly caused by stress wwithin losing a job or some other reason. This problem can be prevented or resolved by helping families out that are going through a rough time and checking up on them every once in a while. Another thing that they could do is aupply the family with more money and allow them to go to a counseling place to discuss the issues that they are havingn on a time basis. This artice is related to Young Ju's family because in the beginning her dad was abusive and I think that it was caused mainly by stress on him from his job. Some of the stress on Apa is from him going to America and Young Ju being jealous over their new born baby.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is horrible how these adults treat children. Children should not be treated like this. People like this should be taken and put away for a long time. The resolution would probably be to find track down the known perpetraitors and laock them away in confined areas where no one can be treated like this ever agin.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on this article is that it makes sense that when the economy is in spiraling down turn, familys tend to have more stress thus making the parents tolerance level with thier children lower.The best solution to this problem is to supply familys with more income/money but since this is not reasonable, I think counsiling would the best method.Young Ju's family is poor causing Apa stress and also his father died, causing him to drink leading him to abuse his family.
ReplyDeleteI think that this issue is ridiculous. It makes no sense to make a child of any kind experience these types of abuse or abuse of any kind. This is something that people should really get a hold on and do something about. People need to learn to deal with their issues on their own and quit dragging others, especially kids, in on their problems. This related to Young Ju's family because they were both stressing but Young Ju moved to a different place and she didn't like this so the parents weren't really thinking about her.

The problem could be resolved by possibly anger management classes or more drastic measures could be taken; for example, jail time. This article relates to "A Step from Heaven," because at the begining of the story Young Ju's father was abusive. The kind of stress I think Apa faces is stress with moving to America and his job.
ReplyDeleteI think child abuse is horrible. Parents do not need to hurt their child because they are stressed or for any reason at all. This can be solved by not the parents destressing them selves out away from the baby and when they get mad learn to put the baby in another room away from them. This relates to her family because Apa hit Young Ju's mom and cracked her lip open. Apa is stressed out because he just moved to America and has a brand new baby boy.

It is sad how much people abuse young children. This story is related to Young Ju's family because her dad was abusive because of the stress that he had at his job. ReplyDeletei think this is absolutley horrible. in no case is it okayy to harm your child. to help prevent child abuse there are parent hotlines to let your stress. you can leave the room and take a breather so nothing harmful happens. this article relates to Apa's situation because Apa is under a lot of stress and he let it through hitting. Apa has to work two jobs so his family can be happy and they can live in a house on their own.

My personal thoughts on this issue is that I think it is horrible to beat the crap out of your baby infant. Don not have babies if you want them.
ReplyDeleteNo matter what the excuse is, child abuse is wrong and just sick. No child deserves to be hit at all, let alone by their parents to whom they look up to. Children learn and become like their parents, and sometimes, that's terribly unfortunate. If a child is abused as they are growing up by their parents, it is much more likely that they will do the same thing to their children. I wish I had all the answers and knew how to prevent this destructive event from occuring, but the truth is, some person's reason or excuse is not ever exactly the same as somebody elses. For Apa, Young Ju's father, he is constantly being put into an excessive amount of stress due to his father dying and trying desperately hard to live up to his wife's standards and give his family a good, comfortable life. Let us not forget, he is also an alcoholic. Though a person can sympathize with the way he is feeling, there is still no excuse for him to hit and abuse his wife (and later on in the sotry, Joon Ho and Young Ju). Child abuse is just plain wrong, and there is never a time where it is ok!!!
ReplyDeleteI believe that this case is very concerning because this is a problem that is becoming worse. The child is not the cause of you being unemployed so you should not be taking it out on them. I have no idea how this problem could be resolved because it would be so hard to keep track of everyone who is abusing their child. Something should definitely be figured out though, to prevent children from being hurt. This problem would relate to the story because young Ju was being neglected not necessarily hurt physically, but it can still hurt the child. Apa faces this stress because he misses his father, and he doesnt know what to do.
ReplyDeleteI think this is very eye opening that just because their surroundings they started to take it out on their child. Thats is something that most people do let it all build up in just pop after a while sometimes they do not mean to. :-(
ReplyDeletei think it is wrong and even though there is stress form people losing their job they have no right to take it out on there kids,we all get stressful every once in a while but not all of us hit them and you can't just blame the problem on there fear of losing their job.

well i think this is true because the more stress that is on a family it can go out on your family like that. it does go with the story because the are going through a hard time and its tough for them and her dad takes it out on alot of stuff.

This problem could be prevented by parents taking their stress out on something else instead of their kids. Parents should try to solve their problems with their kids by talking the situation out.Yes it does relate to Young Ju and her family because Apa beats his family because he is an alcoholic. What made him an alcoholic was the death of his mother Halmoni!
ReplyDeleteI understand where the parents are coming from because i have parents to and the stress out about bills and the jobs but that doesnt give any parent to beat their children just because they are stressed out. Your kids arent the reason why the economy is the way it is dont blame them for your problems. I think if the parents are stressed out talk to a friend to get it off there chest or talk to a consular to learn how to deal with your stress. Everyone has stress and you just have to learn how to deal with and abusing your kids isnt they way.
