I think this is crazy. To be honest I think all immigrants should learn english since we are in America and not in their country. It is important for immigrants to learn a new language so they can communicate with people in their surroundings. If immigrants dont learn a new language they will be stuck not knowing what to do and they can't have a normal everyday lifestyle.

Also if they do not learn a new language then they will have a really duifficult time trying to get jobs and applying for other important things that they would need.

The language in his neighborhood is not as important as what the rest of the country is speaking. He should be able to interact with the community. I think that many people think that since you are moving to America that you nedd to learn english but that really isn't the case. There are many other languages that are spoken in America such as Spanish. The importance of immigrants learning a new language is that to work at different stores and restaurants you have to learn other languages beside english. Not being to learn a new language could cause difficulties for immigrants in a new environment because there could be a town of people that speak spanish and then their language could only be english and then they could not not be able to communicate with the people who speak Spanish and couldn't be able to get any directions from them to kno where to go.

The fact that you learn the language will be easy to talk to people and you can find better jobs. But not learning it can make it harder to find were you are going things you might need. The importance of learning the language of your surrounding is to better your communication to the people

Also, with that in mind, I think we Americans should also explore and learn new languages as well. It would most definately help us in the long run and it will give us opportunities to get better jobs, make relationships with tons more people and so much more!

You should have to learn what they are saying because you choose to live there nobody made you got there. Being a immigrant in a new environment can be difficult learning a new language because you are not use to speaking that language and thats not where you came from so that can be really difficult. Its important to learn new languages because their arent all american people who only speak english some people speak spanish and dont know any other language, im not saying that you have to learn a new language im just saying it would help and the people who dont know english should learn it too.

I think that anyone from another country should learn how to speak the common language because it would benefit them and the person they are talking to. It would benefit them because they wouldn't have to be making signs or asking someone to translate for them. It would benefit the other person because they would understand the foreign person. I'm not saying that they have to forget their language or get rid of it, but just to try to learn the common language to which they are going to. I think that learning a new language would be good so everything can flow together.. And it would be fun for the experience. Thats pretty much all I have to say about this article....

This means that the importance of immagrants learning a new language is very important because that depends their new lfesyle and oppertunites that they are going to take to live in the new country they are in. Immagrants not learning a new language can cause difficulties because it would be harder for them to have a job or asking for anything they need like if they need to go to the hospital how would they explain it if they can't speak that language.
ReplyDeleteThis article was interesting. But I'm sticking to what I think. I think that immigrants should learn English when they come to America. We try and learn their language if we go to thier country they need to atleast make an attempt to try and learn how we speak. I suppose it could cause some issues with their accents and whatnot. It might be hard to understand what they're saying becuase their accent with their other is so strong it would be hard to comprehend to what they're saying.

ReplyDeleteIn my previous comment, I mentioned how it is your responsibility to learn a country's language if you are immigrating to it. However, because this has not happened, our country has many diverse languages, and in some places even in the US, Enlgish is not the most important and commonly used language. In the article, it mentions a little town called Koreatown in California. In Koreatown, the most commonly used language is Korean (hence the name Koreatown.) Though the diversity makes America more fascinating, it also makes it a more difficult place to live. Not only is it hard for Americans who travel within their own country, but newer immigrants who move here could get languages confused and it will be extremely hard on them. Now, in order to really succeed in this country, you should learn many different languages other than English, like Korean and Spanish. That way, you can have a chance to get good jobs and communicate with so much more people!
ReplyDeleteI think the importance of this article is that the nation is very diverse and has many different languages.It is important to learn the culture/ language that you live in so that you can communicate.If the language isn't learned you will not be able to be involed in commerce.For example Latinos working in Chinese resturants have to learn Mandarin and teachers in California teach korean and spanish, instead of english.
ReplyDeleteI would like to add like to my previous comment that not all the immagrants went to night school to learn korean or spanish which were the two new laguages spoken in koreatown. Most of the immagrants learned by talking to others and trying to understand the new language.
ReplyDeleteadding to my last comment i think about the comment of Korean speaking Spanish, that really doesn't make sense to me. i don't see why a different culture like so would learn such a different language. but in a way i guess its the same way when others come to America and have to learn English.
